Re: IA - Sen: The Future Starts Today
After a decisive victory last night earning 78 percent in a three-way primary, Roxanne Conlin has earned the right to challenge 30 year incumbent Senator Chuck Grassley.
Washington is broken and Iowans are fed up with politics as usual. This race is a stark contrast between a career politician who has sided with the special interests time and time again and a champion who has fought for everyday Iowans and will hold Washington accountable.
Will Iowa elect the same guy to do the same job and expect different results?
Roxanne Conlin is a prairie progressive. She has taken on the worldʼs largest
corporations on behalf of ordinary folks and won.
Grassley has held office longer than Hawaii and Alaska have been states. He bailed out Wall Street and provides subsidies to oil companies. He lifted common sense regulations for Wall Street and in the process helped bring about the worst economy since the Great Depression. Oil companies were allowed to drill offshore with little oversight under his leadership and that created the devastation in the Gulf. Heʼs voted five times to give tax breaks to companies to ship our jobs overseas.
Iowaʼs electorate is more Democratic than ever.
Democrats acquired a voter registration edge in 2006 and expanded it in 2008. This will be Grassleyʼs first election with a voter registration disadvantage, which makes up approximately 100,000 voters, or roughly ten percent of expected turnout.
What others are saying
"Her [Roxanne Conlin's] experience as a consumer lawyer means that she has a long history of
advocating for everyday people against corporate interests."
-Iowa City Press Citizen, Editorial Board Endorsement
"Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa), who faces a tough reelction battle this year..."
- The Washington Post, May 29, 2010
"I think it's fairly sweeping, that people are sending a strong message to Washington, D.C., that
they are dissatisfied with what's been going on. I think it's nationwide. I ought to be considering
this message I'm getting from Iowans."
- Senator Chuck Grassley, Examiner, May 21, 2010
Conlin just 8 points down.
A KCCI/Research 2000 poll released last week showed Roxanne Conlin gaining on Senator Chuck Grassley making this an 8 point race. In February, KCCI showed Conlin trailing Grassley by 21 points. This is the second poll showing this race in single-digits and Grassley at or below 50 percent.
