Conlin vows to offer Iowans a voice during Boone stop
Conlin - a former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa and the Democratic gubernatorial candidate in 1982 - is seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Sen. Charles Grassley on Nov. 2. Her opponents in the Democratic primary include former state representative Bob Krause and former state senator Tom Fiegen. After serving as a U.S. attorney and heading up the Civil Rights Division of the Iowa Department of Justice, Conlin has decided to take up a different cause.
"I decided that what I wanted to do with my life was speak for those who would otherwise have no voice," she said.
With the economy taking a toll on many Iowa families, Conlin said it's an all too familiar situation for her. Though her circumstances have changed dramatically over the years, her family went bankrupt when she was a child.
"We started out in the middle class but then my father lost his job and we plummeted to the bottom of the barrel," she said.
