The Civil Justice Foundation Awards go to: Community Champions Roxanne Barton Conlin, Jean Rexford,

(Washington, DC)- Each year, at its Breakfast of Champions during the AAJ (Formerly ATLA) summer convention, the Civil Justice Foundation honors one or more Community Champions. Community Champions are consumer advocates who have performed outstanding work on behalf of injured consumers, to prevent injury, and/or to preserve a consumer's access to justice.
CIVIL JUSTICE FOUNDATION BREAKFAST:
With over 100 attendees the Civil Justice Foundation presented its Community Champion Awards (honoring persons and organizations that have taken an active role in advocating and fighting on behalf of consumers) to:
Roxanne Barton Conlin: Founder & Keynote Speaker Jean Rexford: Jean Rexford is a shining example of a Champion of Justice and we are proud to be honoring her for her hard work. Jean is the Executive Director of the Connecticut Center for Patient Safety. Jean was asked in 2002 to organize the victims of medical malpractice in Connecticut. With Jean's efforts and hard work, the capping of non-economic damages in Connecticut was defeated. From these efforts Jean helped to create the Connecticut Center for Patient Safety and established a community of patient safety advocates. Nancy Cowles: Nancy Cowles is the Executive Director of Kids in Danger (KID). Under Nancy's leadership, KID has grown into a nationally recognized advocate for safer children's products, called on often by the media, parents, regulators and other stakeholders as a resource and key player in the arena of product safety. Nancy opens her heart to protecting children's safety all across the nation and is a model Community Champion
The Civil Justice Foundation also presented awards to two organizations for Years of Excellence (honoring past CJF grantees that have excelled in the fight for justice and safety over 10 and 20 years):
